As one of the industry’s most respected makeup artists, Brigitte Reiss-Andersen has earned the rare privilege of working at the highest level in two makeup arenas: fashion and celebrity.
Brigitte began her remarkable and celebrated career in the illustrious Paris couture house of Yves St Laurent in the early eighties, at the peak of an especially creative era in fashion and makeup. Through her association with YSL, Brigitte began working at the top with such legendary photographers as Guy Bourdin, Helmut Newton, David Seidner and Hans Feurer. Her talent was immediately recognized, and she landed the first of her numerous Vogue covers in 1983.
In the years that followed she collaborated with the top tier of photographic talent: Arthur Elgort, Annie Leibovitz, Herb Ritss, Irving Penn and Patrick Demarchelier. She has partnered with renowned stylists Grace Coddington, Paul Cavaco and Tonne Goodman to create iconic editorial spreads for Vogue, Allure and harper’s bazaar.
As magazines came to feature celebrities on their covers, Brigitte’s client list grew to comprise twenty seven Academy Award-winning actresses including Lupita N’Yongo, Rachel Weisz, and Meryl Streep; Grammy winners Taylor Swift, Mariah Carey and Faith Hill; and all-time legends Michelle Pfeiffer, Jane Fonda and Catherine Deneuve.
In an industry where careers start, peak and decline at a fast-pace, her almost thirty years of consistent top-level work is an accomplishment realized by only a handful of artists worldwide.
What has always set Brigitte apart from her peers is her innate talent for understanding the concept behind a project. She doesn’t simply focus on the makeup aspect of an assignment but captures the intention of the art director, the client, the editor or the photographer and interprets it with her vision. This ability has forged long-lasting ties with magazines, advertisers and creative talent alike. Whether the task at hand is print, a commercial, a music video, a VIP’s red carpet appearance or television interview, she seamlessly adjusts her technique to answer to the demands of varied lighting set-ups and pressure-packed situations.
Today Brigitte can look back at some impressive accomplishments: her work is cited in numerous photography and fashion books, and featured in museum exhibitions worldwide.
For her assignments she has traveled the world, been brought face-to-face with the famous and infamous, from heads of state and ingénues in settings from the White House to Royal weddings in Saudi Arabia, the ACADEMY AWARDS ceremony to the Super Bowl.
She has been engaged by virtually every major cosmetic company from MAC to Revlon to create campaign looks, host press events, participate in social media, teach or lecture.
Brigitte Reiss-Andersen is a master at her craft and a consummate expert on beauty. Her multi-cultural background along with a European upbringing and American professional savvy make her a powerful player in her industry.
